Exploring the LOIRE

Richelieu is in the heart of the stunning Renaissance chateaux and wine region of the Loire Valley.

Chinon with its towering fortress and famous wines is 20 kilometres away.

Saumur, 60 kilometres from Richelieu with its chateau, vineyards and the famous Cadre Noir Horse Academy is a lovely place to visit.

Tours, the elegant capital city of Valle de Loire is a perfect destination for some retail therapy, restaurant checking and cultural delving.

Amboise, a little north of Tours, with its chateau perched high on the hilltop overlooking the Loire River and its cobblestone streets of restaurants and quaint buildings has much to titillate and entertain.

The famous gardens of Villandry and chateaux of Azay-de-Rideau, Amboise, Chenonceau, Saumur and Fontevraud Abby are within an hour's drive from Richelieu. Chambord, the hunting lodge of Francis and 11/2 hours easy drive is truly worth visiting.

The Middle Loire as this region is classified is dominated more by Chenin blanc and Cabernet franc wines found in the regions around Touraine, Chinon, Saumur and Vouvray.
